Vaginal Rejuvenation Q & A

What causes changes in vaginal tone and function?

The primary cause of vaginal changes is the aging process. Your vaginal tissues go through a range of changes as the years pass, just like your skin and the rest of the tissues in your body.

Changes in hormone production can alter the volume of vaginal moisture your body produces. That can make sex uncomfortable, and can even cause irritation while going through your normal daily routines.

Vaginal atrophy is also linked to menopause. The tissues in your vaginal walls can grow thinner, leaving you at risk for small tears during intercourse.

Pregnancy and childbirth can also change your vaginal function. Every woman recovers from childbirth a bit differently, and many notice a loss of vaginal elasticity and tightness after giving birth.

What is vaginal rejuvenation?

Vaginal rejuvenation is a treatment that can improve vaginal dryness and vaginal atrophy. There is also evidence to suggest that vaginal rejuvenation can improve mild urinary incontinence, which often occurs during menopause and after childbirth.

This innovative treatment uses carefully controlled heat to stimulate new tissue production in your vaginal walls. As your body produces new collagen, your vaginal tissues can tighten, and vaginal moisture production increases.

Treatments are not painful, and there is no need for advance preparation. You should refrain from sex for a few days after your treatments to give your body a chance to heal, but there are no other recovery limitations.

Dr. Warner was among the first gynecologists in the Washington, DC, area to offer laser vaginal rejuvenation. He has extensive experience leveraging this innovative treatment to deliver impressive and lasting results.

What is labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a plastic surgery procedure to improve the appearance of your labia, or external genital tissues. For many women, displeasure with this part of the body can negatively impact your enjoyment of sex.

Labiaplasty is usually performed to reduce the size of the labia that extends below the labia majora, which is the external labia where pubic hair grows. When your inner labia, or labia minora, are larger than normal, you can experience discomfort while exercising or when wearing bathing suits or other tight items of clothing.

The procedure is relatively straightforward. Dr. Warner trims away excess skin to create a size and shape that aligns with the rest of your anatomy, then closes the incisions in a manner that leaves minimal scarring.
